Blu at Bisou
Bisou Gallery presents Blu, two paintings by Italian artist Enrica Masi. These deep blue voids were first shown in our 'Kind of Blue' show and are now on view at the gallery.
Enrica Masi (known as Masi) is an Italian artist and designer based in the Netherlands. Her work is rooted in a search for simplicity, expressed through her signature Monsters: abstract, organic shapes that form a personal language of balance, color, and memory.
Since childhood, color fields and playful forms have been her way of grounding herself, and over time her blue Monsters in particular became a way of reconnecting to her Mediterranean roots. Masi’s paintings often carry the atmosphere of the sea and horizon, translating personal experiences, places, and emotions into visual landscapes that invite the viewer to share in her sense of belonging and freedom.

"These paintings are my way of filling the gap of missing the sea. I grew up by the water in Italy, and here in Amsterdam I miss it deeply. Blu is an attempt to recreate that feeling of being out on the horizon, on a boat, when the day reaches a certain hour and everything around you is nothing but endless blue. That memory, the sea stretching into infinity, shimmering and alive, was what I wanted to capture in these works."

"I paint because I have too much inside me not to. Painting lets me surround myself with pieces of who I am laid out in front of me. They remind me of the life I’ve lived, the places I’ve been, and the things I’ve felt. Painting is the one thing no one can dictate, no rules, no do it this way or do it that way. It’s completely mine. And the best part? I honestly don’t care if people don’t like my work. That freedom is everything."
