In this series, we invite some of our favourite people to handpick three works from the Bisou collection. Each guest explains their choices and shares how these pieces might live together, or separately, in a space.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I'm Evelien Reich, the editor-in-chief of MANERA Benelux, a new quarterly magazine dedicated to interiors, design and art, and the people who shape them. We take inspiration from the existing Spanish edition, but will bring in the sensibility of our own region, always with a sense of joy and substance. I’m based in Amsterdam, and have a background in fashion styling and it's these two worlds that continue to shape how I look at art and objects.

    Evelien's picks

You’ve selected three works from Bisou, what drew you to each?

FOV 1055 by Faan Olgers is a no-brainer, I’ve been eyeing his intricate puzzlebox sculptures for ages. There’s something incredibly satisfying about the precision and mystery of his work. It feels both playful and meditative, like it’s keeping a secret you’re invited to unlock.

Maria Bodil’s piece was also an immediate yes. It reminds me of a famous painting, as the title 'Homage 3' hints, but it also brought me back to my own history as a fashion stylist. I used to work closely with photographers to create striking images, and gained a deep fascination for photography in the process. This picture attracted me through its still, surreal tension and the elegant details that take it beyond its initial boldness.

Pascal Duval’s 'Things Are Never Just Things' first pulled me in by its title. It’s full of rhythm and color, and I enjoy how the objects seem to form a coded language, one that’s energetic and philosophical at once.

I was actually surprised to find myself drawn to pieces that are all, in some way, figurative. Each work combines strong form with a sense of character and emotion. I guess that’s what won me over.

Would you display these together, or would they live in different spaces?

I’d love to see them together. There’s something interesting about how they’d interact visually, Maria Bodil’s controlled, sculptural elegance, Pascal Duval’s vibrant grid of symbols, and Faan’s textured, three-dimensional logic. I think they’d make a surprising but satisfying trio. You have my address, right? ;)

    Ask the artist

Is there a piece from this selection you'd love to ask the artist a question about?

I’d love to ask Maria Bodil which artwork they're referencing in 'Homage 3'. It feels familiar, almost iconic, but I can’t quite place it. I’m curious whether they want us to recognize the source, or whether the ambiguity is intentional.
